Transform wine bottles into atmospheric lighting accessories

Macrame is currently very fashionable and also extremely versatile. Originating from the Orient, this knotting technique can be used to create bracelets, bags or decorative objects. But that’s not all: you can also paint macrame-style patterns. We show you how to create atmospheric candleholders from old wine bottles. edding gloss paint markers allow you to draw highly decorative patterns on dark-coloured glass. Just like macrame, decorative drip candles on wine bottles were really popular in the 1970s, and trends from back then are now enjoying a resurgence.

Step 1

Labels on wine bottles can be removed simply and cleanly using theedding 8180 label removal marker. For the design, we've used theedding 750 gloss paint marker in white.

Step 2

Fully coat the labels with the label remover and leave the oil to workfor a few minutes. You can then easily remove the label and anyadhesive residue. Before you start to decorate, thoroughly clean thebottle once more.

Step 3

Before starting your design, activate the gloss paint marker asfollows: shake the marker vigorously with the cap still on, remove thecap and pump the marker up and down a few times on a piece ofabsorbent paper until ink appears in the tip. Test on a piece of scrappaper and your marker is then ready to use. Start by drawing a chainof dots around the neck of the bottle.

Step 4

Continue with the macrame pattern in whatever way you like, perhapsby adding further edging and tendrils that look like knots, or verticallines. After using the marker, make sure the cap is on properly andstore horizontally.

Step 5

Let your imagination run wild and try out different patterns. Once thepaint is dry, you can place the candles in the bottles.
